River of Life

Time, as the metaphor goes, is like a river, and we are the rocks in that river. When we're born we're thrown into that river and we get pulled into its current. The water passes us by and as time goes on we are changed by it. We get a little smoothed up, moved from place to place, and in the end we all get broken down and swept away. But during the time that we are still whole and healthy rocks we get thrown into other rocks. One rock never meets the millions of others in a river, but the ones that it does touch upon it changes in small or big ways.

These other rocks are the other people that we get to know. The friends that we meet and live each day with. They are the ones that you make your memories with while you are alive. From experience I can tell you that a friend lasts only as long as you want them to last. Distance doesn't mean a thing when it comes to good friends. Yes, your degree of friendship may change over the passing of time, but if you really had a deep friendship with that person you can always pick up where you left off. In this world the only people you can count on other than your family are your friends, so make as many strong friendships as you can. Don't toss away a friendship just because of one arguement. Just remember that friendships are priceless. They can not be bought with money nor can they be found in anyone. They truly are the rarest of diamonds, so if you ever do find one don't toss it aside as just another common rock.

In the end when we are all washed away and lost in the waters of time the only difference we will have made to the river is in how much we chipped other rocks by the random tossing that time did. So make your marks on those around you strong and deep, for even a light bump can make a deep impact if you touch the right place.
